Julie Robinson
Inventure founder
A sense of adventure and the experience of freedom has always been intrinsically connected for me, with adventure often acting as the conduit through which I have experienced feelings of unrestrained openness and expansion. Whether it be mountain biking through the rugged and scenic Tuli Block in Botswana, multi-day hiking along the breathtaking Tsitsikamma coast, or camping solo next to a meandering river in the Karoo; the unpredictability of nature-based adventures has invariably captivated my attention and offered a feeling of freedom.
Although adventure has weaved its way through the story of my life, so too has the experience of chronic illness, first as a teenager and later, throughout the course of my adult life. As my physical health deteriorated, and I became trapped within my physical body, adventure ceased – as an experience outside of myself – and the inner spaces within which I began to explore, became the birthplace of Inventure.
My health journey has and continues to be an inner adventure experience, expanding beyond the physical. The messiness of illness and the non-linearity of healing has invited a journey of exploration of a different quality, which has led to the philosophy of Inventure and the experience of it as a way of being in the world.
I believe that as human beings, we are wired for adventure, for the exploration of new territories and experiences that hold the duality of risk and liberation, vulnerability and discovery, and control and unpredictability whilst temporarily intertwined with feelings of exhilaration and exhaustion.
The Karoo, the semi-desert region of South Africa, has played a significant part in my personal healing journey. I feel as though the stark stillness of this arid land and the timelessness of its vast sky, holds the story of my heart. A landscape of contrast that has become the sanctuary of my soul and home to our Inventure experiences.
Although I have lived on two other continents, the African continent and city of Johannesburg is my home. The pulsating energy and diversity of Jozi, makes it a fascinating place to live and a treasure trove of exploration and discovery for the curious minded.
As a registered Organisational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, a Business Psychologist with the Association of Business Psychology in London, a Neuroscience Brain-based Coach, and a Pneumanity Breathwork Practitioner, I engage formal understanding with unconventional perspectives, guided by the natural world and threaded together with story.
