Beauty rattles my insides
In early June, I went on my own Inventure, to a little farmhouse in the Klein Karoo. What I love most about this place is the landscape, as it is both expansive and evocative. Witnessing the changing light through the day and how it reflects the beauty of the natural world is nothing short of glorious. It rattles my insides.
In this place, my experience of beauty tends to unsettle and stir, it lands somewhere within me that is beyond the realm of gentleness, calm and appreciation. It is a rattling, a movement of my insides, a shaking loose and most notably a disruption of my own numbness, comfort and tendency toward distraction.
For me, standing on a mountain and overlooking the beauty of the evening light can bring tears, longing, gratitude, grief, joy, and awe in a single moment. Sometimes it feels as though the full spectrum of my human experience can be evoked in a single sunset or reflection of the sky on the water.
There is incredible joy in experiencing beauty and allowing ourselves to be arrested, rattled, and rearranged by it.
In this month’s article, images replace words. These are the images that caused a force of internal rearrangement, a necessary call back to my own aliveness.
I hope the beauty captured here evokes something within you and ignites a desire to explore. Where is the place where beauty rattles your insides?
